About Dr. Martha Hackett
Dedicated to promoting healthy, vibrant living, Dr. Martha Hackett follows a unique holistic approach that blends the best of Western medicine with ancient time-tested wisdoms.
A board-certified family physician, she has dedicated almost 40 years to caring for her patients. Dr Hackett built one of the largest private medical practices in North East Ohio, recently merging her practice with University Hospitals of Cleveland. She has worked within her community for decades and is now caring for the grandkids of the original families. She graduated with honors from Case Western Reserve University Medical School, and completed her Family Medicine residency at University Hospitals of Cleveland.
Over a decade ago, events in her own life sent her searching for answers outside of traditional Western medicine. At the time, Dr. Martha suffered from numerous chronic conditions, including diabetes, coronary artery disease, and high blood pressure and anxiety. As she watched her conditions slowly worsen, she was confronted with the fact that the method of healthcare she was trained in was simply managing these chronic diseases and not truly healing her or her patients.
Her Journey
Looking for answers, Dr. Martha stepped outside her medical training and began the journey of “living aware.” She opened to the power of good, clean, balanced nutrition. She gained a deeper understanding of the innate healing wisdom of our bodies, and learned how to encourage and support healing. She discovered the ancient techniques of energy healing.
Dr. Martha completed Dr Andrew Weil’s two-year Integrative Medicine Fellowship at the Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine. His program is grounded in the important of nutrition to well-being but also introduced her to many of the interventions that are critical to sustainable human health and wellbeing. Dr Hackett now serves as an advisor on the Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine Alumni Board. To complement this integrative approach to wellness, Dr Hackett has also studied with the Institute for Functional Medicine and shadowed some of the foremost experts in Functional Medicine.
She learned to quiet her mind with meditation and thus is able to live from the sacred stillness within. Dr. Hackett's study of meditation has taken her across the globe, to Kullu, India to spend time with Swami Shyam, whose teachings focused on meditation and knowledge of the self, and throughout the US, in particular to Salt Springs, Florida where she completed the 100 hour training in Yoga Nidra at the Amrit Yoga Institute with Amrit Desai and Dr. Vijay Jain. Dr. Martha has done extensive work with mentor William Spear, who holds a deep knowledge of the study of macrobiotics and feng shui. She has participated in the work of the Spear’s Second Response trauma teams, building resilient communities by offering pre-disaster preparedness to adults around the globe and post-disaster relief to traumatized children.
